The Commissioner of Police, Abia state, Mr Leye Oyebade, has revealed the arrest of a man over production of fake gin and spirits in the state.
Speaking with Newsmen on Tuesday, September 20, Oyebade said the suspect was arrested during a raid of Cemetery Market in Aba. The suspect was reportedly arrested red handed in his ‘factory’ at the market.
Oyebade disclosed that 24 bottles of St. Remy, five cartons of Schnapps, empty schnapps raps, and two bottles of 501 hot drinks were recovered following the arrest of the suspect.
Despite the grievous allegations levelled against him and being caught red handed, the suspect denied the claims.
The suspect informed newsmen that he owned a shop and not a factory as the police said.

“I only came there to buy perfume because that is where you can get original perfumes at an affordable price, unknown to me that the police were raiding the market.
“While I was walking along the Business Line unsuspectingly, a policeman ordered me to enter a shop where ladies’ hair attachments were sold, saying that I was under arrest,” he said.
The suspect also denied any knowledge of the items reportedly recovered from him.
Oyebade told newsmen that the suspects were to be charged to court following the conclusion of the investigations.
